Table Tennis Net Essentials

There are no variations in the dimensions of table tennis nets. The International Table Tennis Federation stipulates that nets should be 6 inches high and 72 inches wide. However, table tennis nets do differ in how they attach to the ping pong table and whether or not they can be adjusted.

Universal table tennis net and post sets come equipped with clamps that attach directly to the table top of any table tennis table. These are sold separately from ping pong tables and usually must be removed if the table is being moved or stored.

Table tennis net and post sets which are designed to fit specific tables are referred to as dedicated nets or integrated table tennis nets. These are anchored to the Butterfly table tennis table using either bolts or clamps. Some dedicated ping pong nets attach to the table frame rather than the Stiga table tennis table itself.

Table tennis nets which are approved for tournaments or competitive play must have features that allow the tension to be adjusted, including a heavy-duty cord running through top of the net. Usually, home or recreational table tennis nets are not adjustable.
